2010 – 2011 could be called an important time of Adobe to return to its throne, the most advanced technology to publish content. Adobe has improved their own exist technology and also announced to support tool for incoming one. I proud to tell you 3 major events that Adobe passed from last year.
The victory on Mobile platform
Adobe AIR make you publish your content through various mobile device (From the left: iPad, iPod touch, Google Nexus S)
Actually, Adobe almost falled when Apple said “We don’t need Flash anymore!”.
But finally, Apple and Adobe can make the agreement to bring their own technology together. Without Adobe Flash Player on iOS, Adobe has sent Adobe AIR runtime into mobile platform. In result, it is better!
Because the flash content in internet can be accessed absolutely free. So it is hard to ensure how much of ROI (Return On Investment) will be returned to Flash developer and designer.
Instead, with Adobe AIR, developer and designer can get into massive number of consumers by turn exist resource and knowledge into mobile application, and upload to sell on mobile’s app store!!
At the moment, you can use Adobe AIR technology to publish your content (game and application) to popular mobile platform such as iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android Phone, Android Tablet, and Blackberry Playbook.
Soon, it will ready on Windows 8 Metro!!
Adobe love HTML5 and Flash
Another topic of century that came out when the conflict between Apple and Adobe began is, HTML5, the most powerful web standard in this planet (and people still waiting for it).
HTML5 also be called “Flash killer” because almost feature in Flash has been added to HTML5.
But Adobe thought in the different way. They think this is the great chance.
There is no HTML5 tool exist out there!
So Adobe spent money to invest in this technology by invent many tools which you may see it around the web already.
Adobe MUSE and Adobe Edge are just the beginning.
In Flash technology, Adobe hugs developer and designer, and said “You’re never walk alone!”. They improved next Flash Player’s performance, less resource consumption, and also able to render 3D!
Adobe AIR has been extended its capability from desktop application to mobile application. There are many of Flash-based mobile application in App Store and Android Market, for example, the story telling “Sylvestor’s Band”, and “Machinarium” which became “Game of the Week”.
New world of Digital Publishing
You may heard about tablet will replaced the magazine.
Sure, I heard it too. New reporters in Thailand held iPad and show Digital Magazine almost every where.
So if you just bring an e-book file (PDF format) into your tablet. It should give a bad feeling.
Adobe knows this, so they released Adobe Digital Publishing Suite to expand capability of publishing tool like Adobe InDesign to work on digital magazine publishing.
You can choose device platform, or all of them! Again it included iOS, Google Android, and Blackberry.
I heard some gossip at the moment about Windows 8 tablet. (who need to miss it?)
But at the moment, publisher around the world already own their digital magazine, such as, Wired, Reader Digest, and Andaman 365. You can go into Digital Publishing Gallery which collect almost every publisher around the world which are using Adobe’s solution.
In Thailand, if you need to know the correct solution to use Adobe Creative Suite in digital publishing. I have to recommend you this site, InDesignThai.com, owned by Mr. Kajorn Bhirakit, Adobe Community Professional.
Conclusion and Adobe MAX
As you might see the big picture, Adobe expanded their technology (Flash and Creative Suite) into the popular platform as mobile.
They also full forward on new technology, HTML5. But in the same time, they improve Adobe Flash to jump into new world like 3D rendering. I think you feel happy to know that Adobe doesn’t need to drop any technology out from the trend.
I’m quite sure the Adobe MAX 2011 will bring exciting technology to you and me, and we will see.
See you in Adobe MAX time!
