3 Reasons that Flash guy should not excite about latest Flash Player status on Android Jelly Bean

ok ok, at the moment, we got the latest update on Adobe Flash Player on Android 4.1 (codename: Jelly Bean).

You can find official announcement from Adobe here. But let’s see why do I think you and me (Flash guy) should not excite for this news. Because there’s a lot of information that media doesn’t focus on, especially with the greater opportunities that people tried to hide them with HTML5.

Let’s take a look.

1. Flash on mobile web browser was (really) a nightmare.

Do you know Flash is an application?

It has minimum hardware requirement, like Microsoft Office or iMovie. It consumes an amount of RAM and CPU. So it runs on your machine with a need of resource.

Yes, it need to integrated into web browser.

These 2 factors are the main reason that Adobe decided to cease Flash Player roadmap for mobile web browser.

Fragmentation of web browser and hardware on mobile platform put the great hard wok to Adobe Flash Player team. They have to handle new mobile spec. and a lot of mobile web browser, which are change rapidly.

For you, this is also your nightmare. You have to think a lot when need to provide Flash content in good user experience on mobile.

So how can Flash guy adapt to these change? See in the next.

2. Stage 3D is next harvest field.

If you don’t know yet, and still working with 2D world in Flash platform. You should refresh your mind and know you are losing the big profit from

Since Flash Player 11 and Adobe AIR 3.2, Adobe put new feature into their runtime, known as “Molehill”, but now, you know it as “Stage 3D”.

It’s very easy to understand. Stage 3D make Flash Player use GPU in rendering process. That means we can see blow up framerate and performance in Flash Player, maximum is 60 fps (Yes, it’s HD quality!)

This make Flash Player can render 3D mobile with very smooth rendering. Both on Flash Player on desktop and mobile application!

Go to Adobe’s Stage 3D official website, see your new opportunities, and you have allowed to shout “WOW”.

3. Mobile App Platform is getting stronger, and Adobe AIR is yours holy grail.

Mobile application is a fantastic platform I have ever seen.

Grow in rocket speed. Easier to monetize your idea, faster and more creative way. These are what you can get from mobile platform.

And for you, Flash guy, Adobe AIR is your supreme solution to deliver your Flash content into mobile platform.

So if you are going on Flash project, 2D or even 3D, you have to go straight to Adobe AIR. Just make your idea fit to mobile device, nice to mobile’s interaction, and gain your profit.

That’s why I don’t care about we’re going to have-no Flash on mobile web. Because you have better platform to monetize your content. It’s on the App Store, Google Play, Windows Marketplace, and other online mobile application store.

Please, for your sake, take a look of incredible Adobe AIR official website by click here.

What’s next?

Those 3 reasons are all sums up I always guide everyone who asked me about “Is Flash dead yet?” and this should be ended.

Just let those Flash-hater guy blogging, shouting, and yelling. But you should not care. If you really love in Flash way, and solid solution that it has brought to animation, interaction, and now 3D and mobile application.

You should abandon the idea that Flash “has to be on” web only. It’s more than that.

It’s interactive authorization platform, dude, and we are going to next level with 3D environment and mobile platform.

Have a great day

5 latest update from Apache Flex community (June 2012)

Apache Flex Logo

It is quite long time after Adobe announced their Adobe Flex framework to open source community. A lot of discussion and opinion overwhelmed the internet. Some is good, some is bad.

But whatever,  Apache Flex got its new logo (More colorful for me), a lot of developer, designer, and software engineer joined the group, and Yes, the project is going forward to next release of Flex SDK.

So until now I just have a time to conclude what’s going on Apache Flex. Feel free to explore. :)

1. Total framework is now in the project

The Apache Flex team wrote in the website that the entire of Flex framework now committed. This also includes automation framework, testing framework, build script and compiler. There’s also a lot of component donation, such as, collection classes and FXGImage flowing into the project.

With these resource, the team can make bug-fixes, optimization, and ensure for preparation for incoming “Falcon” compiler. :)

 2. “Mustela” the testing framework from Adobe

I admitted this is the first time I heard this name. But Mustela has been used by Adobe since Flex still in their own working day.

Mustela will be ensure the future version of Flex SDK will compatible with all old ones. But the team is going to make it easier for you to test with ‘button’ (Thank you! :) )

3. Build script is going official

The team now created a set of build script for everyone for more easier to build their framework.

Apache ANT scripts will be official support, but at the moment, developer can feel free to make build script in Maven.

4. Be prepared! 4.8 is coming!

From my exploring in the project, the team announced new version of Flex SDK version 4.8, pre-compiled. It is not officially (yet). But you can put it into it to test with your project now.

Click here to download the SDK and try with your Adobe Flash Builder, or IntelliJ.

5. New automate SDK installer

Surprisingly, Apache Flex team is building installer for Apache Flex SDK. The installer built with AIR. So you would just do single-click and PHEW! everything updated!

The team also planned to make this automate installer integrate to Adobe Flash Builder 4.6, and yes, may be other IDEs (I think FlashDevelop is a good choice, many people use it.)

What’s next?

Yes, I know that might less than you expect. Some developer asked me about FXG and Flash Catalyst. (yes, we have it, remember?)

But these information means Apache Flex has its direction and its future looks still shining.

We have to wait for incoming update, and I will write it here for you again, next time!

Have a great day.

I’m a speaker at “The Web, The Mobile, and The Cloud” at Silpakorn University, Bangkok, Thailand

When the creativity meet the Post-PC technology!

As the quote said, almost people will think about a people who has been called “Designer”, the people who always generate mind-blowing idea and express it to public via drawing, mocking, publishing, singing, or every human action you can imagine about.

But in this time, the world is changing, the mobile device is exploding into consumer. iPad and Android tablet have been carried by  people, not just teenage and business people, but older and younger also be counted.

So this is the time. Except playing around with game or chat in social network, how would designer and developer use their mobile device to generate their creativity?

Ms. Worawan contacted me via mobile phone that she and student in Silpakorn University are interesting on these topic. So I suggest her about Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Touch Apps which are going to released this year. That became the event “The Web, The Mobile, and The Cloud” at February 25th, 2012.

If you are interesting in Adobe Touch App, these are all of them.

  • Adobe Photoshop Touch
  • Adobe Ideas
  • Adobe Proto
  • Adobe Collage
  • Adobe Debut
  • Adobe Kuler

In the event, I also demonstrated all 6 Adobe Touch Apps to show audience how easy of creativity they can done with and seamless transfer the creative artwork into desktop with Adobe Creative Cloud.

I have to thank you Ms. Worawun, who invited me and cooperated to make this seminar happen. Thank you to Silpakorn University officer who provided room and facilities to be used in speaking. And Thank you to you and everyone who attended to this seminar.

See you again in next seminar. Have a great day.

Want to know when would HTML5 ready? a website is watching

“Is HTML5 ready to use?”

This is my question after I started to learn deep into HTML5′s detail and found…

HTML5′s specification is not completed yet! (Don’t count web browser which is not support some HTML5′s feature)

[note title="So what is 'HTML5 Specification'?" align="center"]When you are going to create content for internet, you have to follow the rule, to ensure your content is good for almost web browser, giving the best content to user. This Internet’s rule is similar to our real law. The law is similar to specification. And you know, each rule have to be considered, vote, and discuss a lot, after that we got a rule that is really good for everyone. That is same to HTML5′s specification.:)[/note]

So, when would HTML5 really ‘ready to use?

You can enter this website to check the time left before HTML5′s specification will be completed.

http://www.ishtml5readyyet.com/

But whatever, we are in the age that we can’t wait something ready to use. You can use it now but you need to be careful. Especially for mobile web browser, which can be checked here.

Anyway, did you start HTML5 project yet?

Check HTML5 and CSS3 Feature before start your website or mobile application project

“Would I have a good night if I choose HTML5? Do I have to deal with those browser? and how about mobile’s web browser?”

I have to answer “Yes, you still have to.” (Scream sound). Even you are consider to choose HTML5 and other latest web standard technology to start with your website , web application, and mobile application project, you still have, to think about those web browser problem.

Nowadays, Internet Explorer still be with us. Counting on other major player like Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, you still have to test your web with. In this Post-PC era, each smartphone and tablet owns their web browser! So you have to think about them too. Because you can imagine that a grandma who can’t use PC, can also own her smartphone.

And one more thing, not all feature of HTML5 would available on every web browser. That mean your client can blame your website if it can’t save a note because they open it in old browser. (Even you know “Jeezz, It’s not cause by my website, it’s about your web browser”, thinking in mind, but can’t speak)

Don’t scream yet, we have a plan.

By checking what feature in HTML5 and CSS3 you are going to use in your project with this website:

http://mobilehtml5.org/

Each feature will be check and put in the table to compare the availability on each web browser. So you can ensure your project will going more smooth (and also notice a pitfall earlier)

But let share, have you even scream during implement your web project?
